Kim Kardashian Super Bowl Ad Shows Reality Star Doesn’t Take Her Selfie Too Seriously [Video]
Kim Kardashian, who has become as well known for her seemingly endless series of selfies as for her ongoing appearances on her reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has shown over the past several years that as far as she is concerned, self-promotion is serious business.
But in a new TV commercial set to air during the Super Bowl, Kardashian proves that even she has the ability to poke fun at her own self-indulgent public image.
The new ad, entitled #KimsDataStash, plugs a new service from the T-Mobile cell phone company that apparently allows customers to keep unused data. But in the commercial, Kim Kardashian encourages T-Mobile users to put that data to a specific purpose — viewing pictures of Kim Kardashian.
The curvaceous reality star appeared on the TBS Conan O’Brien talk show on Monday night to plug the new ad, which begins with Kardashian staring straight into the camera and intoning, as if she is reading a public service announcement, “Each month, millions of gigs of unused data are taken back by wireless companies — tragic.”
The ad then segues into a montage of Kim Kardashian engaged in the various free-spirited and glamorous activities that supposedly comprise her daily existence, such as skiing, playing tennis, modeling expensive evening wear, and, of course, staring into the mirror.
But during each of these activities, Kardashian engages in the activity for which she is best known — photographing herself on her cell phone.
She then tells viewers how she suggests that they use their alleged extra data.
“Data that could be used to see my make-up, my backhand, my outfits, my vacations, and my outfits,” she says.
It is probably not a coincidence that her new self-based Super Bowl commercial debuted shortly after Kim Kardashian announced the impending publication of her first book, un-ironically entitled Selfish.
The volume is essentially a collection of selfies that Kim Kardashian has posted to her various social media accounts over recent months, including the provocative cover of the book, which she released along with the announcement.
“The ad really incorporated a lot of my personality,” she told Conan O’Brien on the show.
“We really went over scene by scene and what selfies I thought would really showcase me and what I would do. I ski, I went to tennis camp growing up. So there are some things in the commercial that I don’t think people know about me.”
The new Kim Kardsahian ad debuts during the NBC broadcast of the Super Bowl on February 1.
