When Grey’s Anatomy last left off, nothing was alright for Meredith and Derek’s relationship, as she told him to take the job in Washington D.C., and when the winter premiere picks up, he is moving. But what does that mean for their future? Will they be able to make a long-distance relationship work?
TVGuide.com has shared a sneak peek of the Grey’s Anatomy season 11 winter premiere, and in the clip (watch it below), Derek’s packing. When he sees the Post-It framed above the bed, he remembers making their vows. However, while looking at that and a photo of the family causes Derek to sit on the bed for a moment, when Meredith sees the Post-It, she throws it out after her own memory, all with her voiceover in the background.
“From the first second the brain receives the signal that a catastrophe has happened, the blood rushes to the organs that need help the most, from knowing that what has happened might be irreparable. We call it shock.”
Executive producer Shonda Rhimes has told Entertainment Weekly that because Grey’s Anatomy won’t be splitting time between Seattle and D.C., that will cut down on how much Derek is seen – but don’t worry, Patrick Dempsey is still on the show.
“It’s highly possible that we might not see Derek for a while. There will be a time when you see him again, yes, but it’s probable that you won’t see Derek for a while.”
So who will be there for Meredith while she juggles being a single mother and her job? That would be Alex, according to TVGuide.com .
“It comes off somewhat begrudgingly, but underneath it all, I think he’s really happy to have that connection,” Justin Chambers has said.
Camilla Luddington has explained that her Grey’s Anatomy character, Jo, isn’t exactly happy about this connection.
“I guess you could call it an emotional affair in a sense. It has come between [Alex and Jo].”
In other Grey’s Anatomy relationship news, as the Inquisitr previously reported, while there’s always hope for a reunion for Callie and Arizona , it doesn’t sound like fans should expect one too soon. In fact, according to EW , Rhimes has revealed that they will be dating other people – but at the right time.
“I really was resistant to the idea of sticking them together with somebody else. We’re just reaching the point in our storytelling – episode 13 or 14 in the scripts – and they’re actually starting to date other people and figure out what that is. But that part is just beginning. I am still a staunch believer that they can figure it out. I’m not saying they’re going to, but I am one of their fans as a couple because I love their story together. I love who they are together. I want them to work out their crap and get it together.”
Maybe dating other people can be a good thing for the couple in the long run. For now, all it means is a “Calzona” reunion is not in the immediate future.
Grey’s Anatomy season 11 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
