Patrick Dempsey Divorce: Racing And Work ‘Destroyed’ His Marriage
Actor Patrick Dempsey may have strained his marriage with his demanding work schedule and dedication to racing. Radar reported on Monday that insiders confirm Patrick’s passion for high-speed racing caused continuous tension in his marriage in the months leading up to his wife filing for divorce after 15 years.
According to the report, Patrick Dempsey was actually in Daytona for a race on Friday when his future ex-wife decided to file for a divorce.
“Jillian often complained to friends that Patrick would be unavailable to attend their children’s activities.”
The insider further revealed that it was Jillian’s idea for Patrick to start racing in the first place — an idea which did not take long to backfire.

Jillian reportedly signed her estranged husband up for race car driving school, believing that it would be a fun hobby for him to enjoy.
“[Jillian] had no clue Patrick would become such a racing enthusiast and even form his own driving team! Jillian regrets having encouraged it in the beginning. Race tracks in pit row aren’t exactly family-friendly or safe for kids to be around.”
The report further states that Jillian “constantly worried” about Patrick becoming injured while he was driving, especially considering the high speeds reached by the race cars.
Racing was apparently not the only thing that caused a major strain in their relationship. Patrick Dempsey’s work schedule also played a role in keeping Patrick away from spending quality time with his family, according to what an inside source told Radar.
“Grey’s Anatomy has a grueling filming schedule, with fifteen hour days very common.”
Patrick Dempsey has played Dr. Derek Shepherd on the hit ABC TV series, Grey’s Anatomy since the show first premiered in March of 2005. Even before Season 11 premiered in September of last year, 220 episodes had already been filmed and aired during the first 10 seasons of the long-running series.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Jillian Fink cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind filing for divorce from Patrick Dempsey.

She is requesting spousal support and may also receive a substantial amount of Patrick’s $40 million net worth since the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement.
In a joint statement to Us Weekly, Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink decided to end their 15-year marriage with “careful consideration” and “mutual respect.”
