Telfair County, Georgia: Elderly Couple Missing After Going To Meet Online Car Seller
Police in Telfair County, Georgia, are now searching for a missing couple after they went to inquire about purchasing a car from an online seller. The couple had found the car on Craigslist and simply went to go see about purchasing it, but they haven’t been seen since.
Bud and June Runion now have family members looking for them in full force. The couple are both in their late 60s per WSBTV, and have been missing since Thursday. That was when they left their home in Marietta to go look at the vehicle.
The Runions were going to look at a 1966 Ford Mustang that was being advertised in McRae, Georgia. Their daughter states that she spoke to them on Thursday morning when they set out to look at the car and no one has heard from them since.
Police have said that cellphone data shows that the Runions did indeed make it to McRae. The last known location of them was in the city at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Since then, their cellphones have been turned off and that is not allowing anyone to get a ping off of them.
A missing persons report was filed on Friday by the children of the Runions.
Local news station, 13WMAZ, states that it was believed the couple from Telfair County was intending on going to look at the vehicle and come straight home.
Police are now taking any leads they can find and are trying to run with them. They have learned that the cellphone the Runions called about the Mustang was a disposable phone with no real personal information attached to it.
Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson said that they are working on this quickly because they’re sure the Runions were led into a trap.
“We haven’t gotten any information or indication that they have acted that way in the past.”
At the time they disappeared, the Runions were driving a light brown 2003 GMC Envoy, and it also has not been located as of yet.
Unfortunately, there was no real name attached to the Craigslist ad for the Mustang and the exact location of the meeting-place is also not known. A few leads have come in though and police are focusing on a few particular areas.
A Facebook page titled Find Bud & June Runion has been created, and it already has over 20,000 LIKES as of Saturday evening. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Telfair County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office at 229-868-6621.
