Nicki Minaj To Headline 2015 Summer X Games, Promises Unforgettable Performance
ESPN’s Summer X Games is bound to get hotter than hot this summer, after making the announcement that Nicki Minaj will be the headlining performer for this year’s extreme sporting competition. Taking place in Austin this coming June, Minaj will play her biggest hits alongside Talib Kweli, Deltron 3000, and Austin rockers Pennywise.
The hit-making queen of rap is excited about her upcoming performance. In statement released by ESPN, Minaj discussed this summer’s event.
“I look forward to channeling the energy and spirit from the X Games into a performance Austin will not forget.”
Looks like Nicki will be busy for the rest of the spring and summer. This March, the rapper will tour Europe with Trey Songz. Minaj and Songz will visit 17 cities across Europe, and tickets are already selling fast.
The massive success of Minaj is due to her latest album, The Pinkprint. Released back in December, the album is still part of the charts after selling more than 400,000 units. The internet sure loves Nicki Minaj, as her songs have been streamed more than 11 million times. It is expected that her album will hit the Gold milestone within the next month.
The X Games started in 1995 as a way to push extreme sports to the mainstream. Just like the Olympics, the competition awards winners with bronze, silver, and gold medals. Events like skateboarding, freestyle motocross, skiing, and snowboarding are just some of the things that people can expect in this year’s competition.
This year’s X Games will feature the Moto X Quarterpipe for Skateboarding and BMX Big Air Doubles. The kick-off event will be held in front of the Texas State Capitol. Over the years, the event became a hub not only for sports enthusiasts, but also for those who are interested in music and gaming.
It’s the second straight year that ESPN chose a hip-hop act to headline the special concert. Last year, Kanye West performed at the X Games Super Stage armed with a massive video screen and his iconic mountain from the Yeezus tour. West performed a slew of hits from his brand new album and the crowd sang along when he played old songs like “All Falls Down.”
Little is known about Nicki Minaj’s setlist, but we can expect more information about it once Minaj kicks off her European tour. Fans of the hip-hop star can now purchase tickets for the upcoming event. Three-day passes will start at $109.
