Katy Perry Super Bowl Halftime Show Could Put Bruno Mars And Beyoncé To Shame

Katy Perry is going to perform at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, and already, some are predicting it’s going to be a entertainment event to remember. Time predicts Perry could be a huge hit, just as long as she sings familiar songs.

“Sorry to anyone who’s hoping for a Prism reissue with new songs: This set is likely to be about Perry’s past legacy. Perry can emerge from the big game a champion—she already has the raw materials—so why should her playbook include any risks?”

In the past couple years, Bruno Mars and Beyoncé have taken the halftime stage, so Katy Perry has a lot to live up to. Bruno Mars was universally praised for his show. Beyoncé received acclaim from critics, but the general public showed less enthusiasm on Twitter. Katy Perry recently told ESPN how she feels about performing for the Super Bowl.

“Honestly? I feel like I’ve outdreamt my dream. I don’t get nervous about much, but I’ll definitely be a little tingly inside that day.”

In the same interview, Katy Perry talks about realizing her dreams at the age of nine.

“Everybody would be going about their business, and then all of a sudden their heads would turn when I would start singing. It was this magic trick that I had. I guess I loved that attention. And I went for it.”

Like every performer before her, Katy Perry has her detractors. There are many who say Perry is on her way out because her most recent album, Prism, wasn’t as successful as its predecessor, Teenage Dream. However, Jason Lipshutz from Billboard recently analyzed why the Prism era is more impressive than most people think.

Teenage Dream is only the second album ever to produce five No. 1 Hot 100 singles; it’s essentially a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. With that in mind, Prism has come a lot closer to duplicating that success than Katy (or anybody) could have hoped for.”

Katy Perry is certainly risking a lot by performing at the world’s biggest entertainment event. In the past, acts such as the Black Eyed Peas and Janet Jackson have hurt their careers with sub-par performances. Sometimes, there are things that an artist cannot control, such as sound quality. Perhaps, like Madonna, Perry may be better off lip-synching her performance.

All eyes will be glued to their television sets on February 1 to watch the Super Bowl and Perry’s performance. What songs would you like to see Katy Perry perform?
