Officials in Iran are now claiming that they have moved their uranium enrichment program to an underground site that is protected from possible airstrikes.
According to one of the countries hardline newspapers on Sunday the Fordo facility, located next to an Iranian military base is more advanced then then countries other uranium enriching sites, allowing researchers to inject uranium gas into more high-tech centrifuges.
In a front page report the paper revealed:
“Kayhan received reports yesterday that shows Iran has begun uranium enrichment at the Fordo facility amid heightened foreign enemy threats.”
While that report may be correct Iran’s nuclear chief Fereidoun Abbasi says the program has not begun at this time but will begin “soon.”
While Iran already runs a large uranium enrichment facility in Natanz with nearly 8,000 centrifuges it’s believed the Fordo facility is even more advanced and more well protected.
While the country continues to push forward with its Uranium enrichment program it’s that very program that has led the United States and many of their other trading partners to place large restrictions on the countries imports and exports. The U.S. recently drafted Iranian banking sanctions against the country and has threatened to shut down oil production in the country. 80% of Iran’s capital comes from the exportation of oil.
Uranium can be used for the purpose of nuclear power but it is also capable of creating the materials used for atomic bombs. Iran for its part says they only want the uranium enriched rods for energy and research purposes.
Do you believe Iran should be allowed to continue their march towards nuclear weapons or should the world’s superpowers cripple the countries infrastructure by stopping the free flow of oil from Iranian oil fields?
