Chris Brown is now free on $50,000 bail following his domestic violence arrest Sunday evening. Brown’s arrest is widely speculated to be tied to a beating of his girlfriend, Rihanna. That rumor has neither been confirmed nor denied by police.
Chris Brown: The Domestic Violence Arrest
Chris Brown turned himself into the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire station around 6:30 on Sunday. He was questioned and then booked on suspicion of making a criminal threat, media outlets are reporting . That charge would constitute a felony.
Police say the arrest is connected to a domestic violence complaint in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. A woman reported to police that she and Brown had gotten into a fight in a car just after midnight that morning. She said Brown pulled the vehicle over and the argument became more intense. The woman “suffered visible injuries” and pinpointed Brown as her attacker, police say.
Chris Brown Arrested: What About Rihanna?
Investigators are staying mum about whether the woman involved in the case was Rihanna. Rihanna did cancel her performance and appearance at Sunday’s Grammy’s show, as did Brown. Rihanna was scheduled to open the awards ceremony. Both Rihanna and Brown were reportedly at a pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills.
The Telegraph quotes Rihanna’s representatives as saying she had been “involved in a traffic mishap but was fine.” A statement given to Rolling Stone by the singer’s publicist says only: “Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support.”
