Dax Shepard Reveals Horror Of Watching Kristen Bell’s C-Section [Video]
No one ever said that childbirth was easy. Having a baby naturally is often times a long labor intensive task, as many of us have endured or witnessed. Most of us have seen childbirth videos in high school sex ed class, but those videos don’t typically show a C-section, which is not for the faint of heart, as reported by Babble. Actor and funnyman Dax Shepard learned this the hard way. On a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Shepard revealed a graphic depiction of watching wife Kristen Bell give birth to their second child, Delta, via a last-minute C-section. Having already watched Bell endure 15 hours of labor and give birth to his first child, Lincoln, Shepard thought he was going into this second birth all prepared.
“It was not [easier the second time around], it was more difficult. Kristen, god bless her, was in labor for 33 hours. It was intense.”
After those 33 intense hours of labor, Shepard explained that Bell was wheeled into the operating room for a C-section.
“She got an epidural at like hour 14…and I think dads need something. I deserved something. Because I was along for the ride. Its still a car crash and I’m in the passenger seat. I’m playing Katy Perry, and I’m breathing, and I’m rubbing her back…[But] then at the last minute, which was heartbreaking, she then had to have a C-section…and I had been warned by a lot of different gentlemen, and even my own mother, that said ‘You may not want to watch the baby come out. Maybe not the greatest idea. What they did not warn me about is the C-Section, which is way worse. So, there’s a sheet and then they go ‘The baby’s here!’ and then you peak around the sheet and they’re lifting out the baby but then you notice your wife is completely disassembled! I can see inside of her! I was like, ‘It’s a girl! Your liver’s out, I think. And then those are definitely your intestines…Oh my god, put her back together correctly!’ There’s nothing worse than seeing your partner flowing over! Guys, I need medication if this happens again.”
During his conversation with Ellen, Dax also explained how he and Bell came about naming their newborn daughter, Delta, who was born three weeks ago, as reported by E! Online.
“It was a joke because our first daughter’s name is Lincoln, which is very masculine, so, a friend of mine teasingly texted me: ‘Oh, great! What’s this one gonna be? Navy Seal? Delta Force? Green Beret?'”
“I was reading this text out loud to Kristen. And I said, ‘Oh, Louis Steve said what if we named her Delta?’ Delta! Delta Bell Sheppard! That’s it!'” the 40-year-old “Parenthood” actor told Ellen. “And that’s it!”
