WWE News: WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan Reveals Who He Was Originally Set To Face At WrestleMania 30
As we all know by now, WWE never planned to have WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan in the main event of WrestleMania 30. Furthermore, he was never set to be part of the WWE World Heavyweight Title match. It seemed odd, as WWE set up the story well from SummerSlam by screwing him over. To not allow Bryan a chance to get a win out of the storyline would be the most extreme burial you could go for. This was in the cards, until an uprising occurred.
WWE fans all over the world, and even random people out of the woodwork, would shout YES! and continue to support Daniel Bryan in all he did. WWE was forced to add Bryan into the main event of WrestleMania, and as an added treat, put the WWE World Heavyweight Title on the line. So what was the original plan for Bryan at WrestleMania 30?
Much speculation has occurred. There was some talk of him facing John Cena, and others say it was set to be The Undertaker. Bryan was nice enough to sit down with NewsDay.com to fill us in on a variety of things, including who his opponent was set to be.
“I can tell you 100 percent for a fact that I was not supposed to be in the main event at WrestleMania 30. That is one of the coolest things about WWE and wrestling in general. The fans have this very unique voice, and this very unique power, and in no other sport and no other form of entertainment can the fans make their voices heard and it affect change.”
He went on to tell Newsday that he was set to face off with Sheamus on the fifth or sixth match on the card. So Bryan would have had a main event level match, but not the main event. It was certainly not going to be for a championship either.
The idea rumored was that this would be payback from a few years before, where Sheamus beat Bryan for the World Heavyweight Title in 18 seconds.
Bryan and Sheamus have worked well with each other in the past, so many would speculate that the match would have been good. Of course, everything worked out in the end for Bryan, as he left with the WWE World Heavyweight Title and main evented a WrestleMania. Both things are very difficult to do, and Bryan did both in the same night. A career can be defined like this, but sadly, Bryan suffered an injury right after his big win.
Daniel Bryan is now back, which is a great thing. However, it does come with some complications.
Bryan coming back really put creative into a bind. While WWE and the fans obviously like that he is present, no one knew when he would be back, and WrestleMania plans had already been underway not including him. WWE will be using him at the event, however. What type of match he’ll have is up in the air, but many are hoping for something similar to last year. It is doubtful he will have such a match, but you never know in today’s WWE.
