Al Sharpton has made the news headlines once again this week, having ranted about this year’s Oscars featuring only white nominees, as he told reporters, “The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets.”
If that kind of statement was uttered by a white leader in America, about African Americans, Sharpton would likely see to it that there was uproar from the black community, but when he says such things, it seems to be par for the course.
Sharpton said the following about the all-white 2015 Oscars .
“The lack of diversity in today’s Oscar nominations is appalling and while it is good that Selma was nominated for ‘Best Picture,’ it’s ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations. With all of the talent in Selma and other Black movies this year, it is hard to believe that we have less diversity in the nominations today than in recent history.”
But Sharpton is a well-known troublemaker, even if the media generally turns a blind eye to that fact, and he has a bunch of shadiness which surrounds him, earning a name for himself as someone who acts mainly for personal gain.
The death of Akai Gurley is a good example of Sharpton’s need to get involved. Gurley, a black man, was shot dead by a rookie police officer in November last year, but Gurley’s family told Al Sharpton to stay away.
As Gurley’s aunt told TMZ at the time, “Al Sharpton came in, put his name on the situation, but has not even made one single call to the parents of Akai,” adding that all Sharpton sees “is money and political gain and he is turning the tragedy into a circus.”
On top of that, Sharpton allegedly owes more than $4.5 million in state and federal taxes as his various businesses, and his National Action Network, have repeatedly failed to pay travel agencies, hotels, and landlords.
Another revealing fact in unravelling the true Al Sharpton is the language he uses when talking about white people, like during a rally in Brooklyn last year where he referred to them as “crackers.”
But Sharpton doesn’t limit his racist and bigoted views just to white Christian Americans , as Jews are often the subject of his hate, like back in 1991 when black rioted against Jews in Brooklyn following a traffic accident.
At that time, Al Sharpton was quoted as saying to reporters, “if the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house.” Shortly after that, a Hasidic Jewish student visiting the area from Australia was set upon by a black mob and stabbed to death.
Homosexuals are, of course, also not exempt from Al Sharpton’s wicked tongue, as at a college in 1994, he referred to gay men as “homos.”
The list goes on and on, but we can suffice with this sample for now. The question is: For how much longer will America tolerate rabble rousers like Al Sharpton?
