Spreading Santorum Website Still Ranking Number One In Google [Political Fail]

It’s official Rick Santorum is now the GOP Presidential front runner, well by a margin of 12 votes out of 120,000 cast in Iowa but none the less he is now the man to beat.

While I could wax and wane all political about the Iowa Caucus the truth is there’s a better story, a story of determination by a single website owner to rise above the GOP contenders and bring the word “Santorum” to the number one page rank on Google and that man has managed to get “SpreadingSantorum.com” ranked above even the official Rick Santorum campaign website.

So what is SpreadingSantorum.com? It’s a website devoted to shooting down Rick Santorum at every turn possible and exposing him as the scum of the earth. While I won’t make any comments on the “truth” found in the site it does show that with a little hard work anyone can rank for popular search terms in Google with the right viral campaign.

We definitely are not the first website to link over to the column, back in September 2011 the site received hundreds of links from bloggers supporting the page, those links in turn resulted in the number one pagerank for SpreadingSantorum, a rank that continues to this day.

I bring up the site now because as my screenshot above shows, the site is being prominently featured next to polling numbers and GOP primary news, a nice juxtaposition for a crudely created website that relentlessly pokes fun at the man they call ‘unelectable.” Heck even Stephen Colbert gave a salute to Spreading Santorum.

Here’s the opening page when you click on the link and visit the domain:

Among the sites Twitter followers is Jeopardy uber-champion Ken Jennings which means the site can’t be all bad right?

It might be a little NSFW so beware before you visit and if you simply can’t help yourself here’s the link: SpreadingSantorum.com .

Are you surprised to learn that the Rick Santorum website hasn’t worked harder to move the page down in the ranking with the help of SEO experts and their conservative blogging community? I’ve seen a lot of persistent top ranking websites in my lifetime but none that have held on like this independent blog.
