‘It’s Good’: First ‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer Hits February 13 With ‘Kingsman,’ And One Guy Says You Should Be Excited
Fox has been pretty quiet on the Fantastic Four front, but with just a few months left before its late summer release, we’re starting to get trickles of information on the reboot of Marvel’s First Family. The latest news has a Fantastic Four trailer debuting within the next month, while someone who’s seen the movie says that we should start getting our hopes up for what Fox has in store.
The Fantastic Four have been a source of much consternation among fans of the Marvel comics. The super-powered quartet essentially kicked off the Marvel Universe as we understand it, but Fox has never been able to translate the magic of the comics to the screen in a suitable fashion.
With a reboot in the works and set for a late summer release, Fox is trying once again to capitalize on the Fantastic Four, and fans have been following the leaks of some details about the film. Last year, word leaked that Doctor Doom would be a “very anti-social programmer,” and that director Josh Trank would be trying to realize the Fantastic Four “in a different way,” without a “kitschy, overly comic-book world.” Lovers of the comics haven’t quite known what to think, as Fox hasn’t even leaked images of the Four in costume.
Now, though, we’re getting word that Fantastic Four fans should be optimistic. Of course, it’s word from somebody that works for Fox, but it’s more than we’ve heard about the movie from just about anyone else.
Director Matthew Vaughn is doing promotional junkets for Kingsman: The Secret Service, and he sat down recently with Flickering Myth to talk about his next effort. The topic eventually turned to Fantastic Four, and Vaughn had some encouraging words for fans.
“I’ve seen the movie,” Vaughn, who also directed the successful X-Men revamp, First Class, said. “It’s good.”
Vaughn appealed to fans to consider Trank’s work that preceded Fantastic Four, specifically the cult favorite superpowers flick, Chronicle.
“I thought Chronicle was a fantastic movie,” Vaughn said, “and Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four. If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this. We’re all backing Josh Trank’s vision, and hopefully the world will like Josh Trank’s vision.”
Of course, that is again one Fox employee talking up the potential of another Fox employee, but it’s probably the most discussion of the Fantastic Four reboot that we’ve gotten in months. There’s also the fact that, according to new reports, Vaughn’s Kingsmen will be the first place that we can get a look at the new Fantastic Four in action. When Kingsman opens on February 13, it looks like it will open with a trailer for the new Fantastic Four attached.
