Derek Hough Out For ‘Dancing With The Stars’ 2015 Spring Season
Derek Hough is out as a pro for the spring 2015 Dancing With the Stars season. Though Hough’s DWTS return had seemed a likelihood not long ago, apparently an opportunity simply too good to pass up came his way. What will Hough be doing instead?
The long-time DWTS pro is going to tackle the male lead role of New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall beginning in March. People shares that Derek will play a character named Jack in a limited, seven-week run of the show.
Jack is said to be a man with a special mission who will get a special, eternal reward if he can help a guy named Bernie keep his job. Bernie, a New York City tour guide, is at risk of losing his job when a gal named Jenna indicates that she plans to make the tour visual. Jenna will be played by Nashville’s Laura Benanti, who plays the character of Sadie Stone on the series.
The show has some other big names attached to it as well. Whoopi Goldberg will do the voice of the Statue of Liberty, while Bella Thorne does the voice of an Alice in Wonderland Statue. Martha Stewart and Donald Trump will do cameo spots as well.
Hough says that the show will be like nothing fans have seen him do before and performing at Radio City Music Hall celebrates everything that is beloved about the city and it is a dream for him. He adds that he’s ecstatic to extend his passion for performing to the show and it does seem like it was an opportunity too good to skip.
Though Derek Hough’s DWTS return for the spring had seemingly been almost a done deal not long ago, fans are thrilled that he’s grabbing this opportunity. As E! Online notes, the spring season is Season 20 for DWTS and there has been a lot of buzz about making it something special. The show will premiere in March and there is already some buzz about which celebrities and pros may and may not be participating.
Val Chmerkovskiy recently indicated that he will be back, but Cheryl Burke has already bid the show farewell. It is known that the full judging panel will be back, including Julianne Hough, but this next season will be Len Goodman’s last.
Derek Hough’s run in New York Spring Spectacular will start on March 12. Season 20 of Dancing With the Stars should be premiering on ABC in the middle of March and there are a few possible cast member names being bandied about such as Bachelor Chris Soules and politician Robert F. Kennedy Jr. More spoilers will be coming out in the next few weeks as the cast members and pros prepare to start practicing.
While Derek’s fans will definitely miss seeing him on the Dancing With the Stars 2015 spring season, they are excited for him to try out a show that should be so different from what he’s done previously. Will Derek Hough’s DWTS gig pick up again for the fall season? Fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
