Marvel Releases New ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Trailer – What Can We Learn From It?
Marvel fans already know that they’ve only got a few months to go before Avengers: Age of Ultron conquers theaters, and Marvel is back with a new trailer to get you all hot and bothered over this summer’s inevitable blockbuster. The new trailer answers a few of our questions about Age of Ultron, but truth is, it actually raised even more issues than it solved.
Marvel posted the new Age of Ultron trailer on Monday, in the House of Ideas’ ongoing campaign to push the hype for the Avengers sequel to legendary heights. The trailer gives us a longer look at some footage that we’ve already seen before, but it also shows a good deal of new stuff, with some new audio from Age of Ultron that gives a better context for the film.
We’ve watched it a few times already, and we’re even more psyched for Age of Ultron‘s May 1 premiere. Much of that excitement stems from what looks like the introduction of at least two new characters. The first is the disrobing woman at the :33 mark, and the second is another woman we only catch a glimpse of at the 1:03 mark.
Who are these women? It’s a bit hard to tell. The :33 woman could well be a Wakandan citizen of some sort, which would make sense given that Age of Ultron will likely contain some elements laying the groundwork for an eventual Black Panther movie. The larger glimpse of Andy Serkis in the new trailer – Serkis is expected to play a classic Black Panther villain – just further cements the possibility that the woman we catch a glimpse of is connected to the Black Panther.
The woman at the 1:03 mark is just as interesting. It looks like something bad is happening to Thor in that shot, and it seems like the 1:03 woman has something to do with it. A close look at the frame shows that she appears to be in some sort of costume, and commenters are already speculating that she could well be the Enchantress, a longtime enemy of Thor.
Somebody’s messing with Thor in the new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer.Speaking of Thor, he does look like someone’s really giving him the business in that shot, no? That’s not looking like a happy lightning discharge. Likewise with the shot of the Hulk, who looks quite red-eyed and angry in what look like snippets from his eagerly awaited battle with Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor. Captain America doesn’t look like he’s faring too well in hand-to-hand combat with Ultron, either. In fact, the whole Avengers squad looks like it’s going to have a hard time handling the Age of Ultron.
At least, that’s what we’re taking away from the trailer. It also seems like Tony Stark’s pitch to the Avengers – “This vulnerable world needs something more powerful than any of us” – to support the Ultron initiative doesn’t wind up going over too well in the end. There’s Thor telling Tony that he meddled in things he couldn’t control, and generally the vibe of the trailer has us thinking that the Avengers squad won’t be quite as unified when the credits roll on Age of Ultron.
