Figure skating champion Johnny Weir and his boyfriend Victor Voronov got married over the weekend at a small ceremony on New Year’s Eve.
Weir and Voronov decided to get “all the official stuff” done over New Year’s Eve and will celebrate with a big ceremony later this year.
Weir wrote on Twitter to his 103,000 followers:
“I’m married! All the official stuff is done now! No more livin’ in sin!”
Voronov, who is a Georgetown University law school graduate wrote:
“Ringing in the New Year with my new hubbby.”
The NY Daily News reports that the flashy figure skater was quiet about his sexuality for years but came out to the public last year.
Weir told the IceNetwork.com:
“I’m getting married on New Year’s Eve. His name is Victor, he’s kind of everything that I’ve ever looked for and aspired to be in a relationship with. We’ve known for a long time and we reconnected over the summer, and it’s just been a whirlwind.”
According to the New York Daily News, Weir and Voronov will be moving to New York City soon.
It isn’t clear where Johnny Weir and Victor Voronov said their I Do’s, but the list of locations where it would be possible continues to grow. As of January 1st, Delaware and Hawaii joined 12 other states that allow same-sex civil unions.
