Oscar Isaac Says ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ ‘Has ‘Some Scary S**t’ To Bring The X-Men To Their Knees
X-Men: Apocalypse is still quite a while away, but that’s not stopping Oscar Isaac, who will play the film’s eponymous villain, from talking up Apocalypse in grand terms. According to Isaac, X-Men fans can expect a truly impressive villain for the third installment of the rebooted franchise, one worthy of the name Apocalypse.
Isaac is currently doing press for his latest film, A Most Violent Year, but everybody’s asking him about what we can expect from X-Men: Apocalypse. Isaac’s casting was only announced and confirmed quite recently, and the actor has presumably seen only a bit of the script. He appears to have been impressed, though, with what he has seen of the next X-Men movie.
“I’ve seen a couple things,” Isaac told MTV News at the National Board of Review Awards. “Scary s**t. Scary s**t.”
Isaac there was talking about what he’s seen of costume and character designs for Apocalypse. The look of Apocalypse hasn’t even been hinted at yet for the next X-Men flick, but fans will obviously have their own expectations. Whether or not Marvel can realistically bring anything approximating Apocalypse’s look from the X-Men comics will no doubt be a topic of conversation once more details on the film begin to leak out.
Isaac didn’t have too much more to say regarding X-Men: Apocalypse, which is understandable since the film is still relatively early in the planning stages. He did say, though, that we can expect that the X-Men will get all that they can handle and more when they go up against Apocalypse.
“I’m going to bring [the X-Men] down to their knees,” Isaac said. “It’s amazing. I’m so excited about everything that’s going to happen.”
X-Men: Apocalypse will follow on the heels of the wildly successful X-Men: Days of Future Past, capping off the three-film arc that rebooted Fox’s version of the mutant franchise after the first trilogy nearly destroyed its viability. The third film will likely kick off a new spate of mutant movies for Fox, with a Deadpool film, a Gambit film, and likely a Wolverine film slated for release in the next few years.
The next film will reportedly focus heavily on the romance between Mystique and Magneto, played by Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender. With those two no doubt occupying a good deal of screen time, it might be interesting to see just how Fox manages to give Isaac’s Apocalypse time enough to shine.
