It’s Official: Russell Brand Files For Divorce From Katy Perry

For the last few months, gossip magazine headlines have been fueled by the speculation that Katy Perry and Russell Brand were getting a divorce. The couple denied the rumors at first, but today the comedian released a statement saying that he was filing for divorce from his pop singer wife.

Brand told TMZ:

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

Rumors about the divorce have been swirling for months. Earlier this week it was reported that the couple had spent the holidays more than 7000 miles apart and that neither Katy Perry or Russell Brand had been wearing their wedding rings.

TMZ reports that Brand filed for divorce in L.A. citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Brand and Perry married on October 23rd, 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony. They have no children together.

Perry hasn’t commented on the divorce yet, and TMZ speculates that the singer may have been blindsided by Brand’s decision to file for divorce.
