Jenelle Evans is the latest Teen Mom star to announce huge news to her fans. The reality show star revealed that she recently got engaged, and showed off a pretty pricey ring on Instagram. However, fans were quick to accuse the star of having MTV foot the bill for, not only her new bling, but also for her vacation with her fiancé, Nathan Griffith. It turns out, though, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Ashley from The Ashley’s Reality Round Up was able to set the rumors straight by talking to some insiders close to the show. They revealed some interesting things about Jenelle’s engagement, and revealed what MTV did and didn’t pay for. In fact, fans may be shocked to find out just how little MTV is involved when it comes to paying for things for the cast.
“They won’t pay for anything like that. If someone goes out to dinner and it’s on-camera, MTV will pay the bill, up to a certain amount. They’ll pay for activities on camera. So maybe the dinner bill was picked up. But anyone that thinks MTV would pay for an engagement ring is completely wrong.”
The engagement ring reportedly cost $4,000 and that is a large sum of money for a piece of jewelry, but it appears that Nathan Griffith saved money from his new job (it is unclear what his profession is) to afford the ring. Nathan Griffith also paid for the entire trip to St. Thomas. Again, MTV reportedly had no part in paying for the trip according to another source.
“There’s no way MTV would pay for Jenelle and Nathan to go on vacation. No way. People seem to think that the network pays for everything that these girls do, which just isn’t the case. Shockingly, they are telling the truth – Nathan actually did pay for the trip. He paid the bill for the airfare and hotel stay for everyone, except the film crew obviously.”
The casts of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 are also berated for having MTV money. It is true that a lot of fans think the network pays for everything that the girls do. In fact, as previously reported by the Inquisitr , Kailyn Lowry was attacked on Twitter when a fan assumed MTV paid for everything in her life.
Jenelle Evans recently revealed to MTV.com details of the proposal from Nathan Griffith. She explained that the two were out to dinner when the proposal took place.
“[Nathan] just tapped his glass, stood up in front of the whole restaurant, and made this big speech. How he loves me, he wants to be with me for the rest of his life. And he’s really happy. And then he got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone.”
Jenelle Evans has also been dealing with drama from her exes over her engagement. The reality show star took to Twitter to call them out. Both Kieffer and Gary had a few things to say about their ex-reality-show-star girlfriend on her third engagement , according to Wetpaint , but Jenelle wasn’t bothered by their words.

The proposal will air on the upcoming season of Teen Mom 2 . While some fans may take this as a sign that MTV planned the entire thing, it turns out that, since Nathan Griffith is under contract, he had to tell the network his big plans. After learning that, the crew showed up in St. Thomas to film.
Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith have not yet set a wedding date.
