Going on five years now, Nina Dobrev has been starring in the CW series The Vampire Diaries , but she has recently begun to look beyond the successful series toward her future in Hollywood. According to Celeb Dirty Laundry , Dobrev has been showing interest in pursuing a film career with the intention of leaving her television roots in the past, once Vampire Diaries had concluded its run. More specifically, Nina has been showing interest in catching a starring role in a franchise like Twilight , or in one of the many superhero film franchises currently trending in theaters.
Dobrev may be hoping that to be featured in such a franchise will launch a film career in much the same way that The Hunger Games has rocketed Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom. Nina does have the exposure and popularity to help push her to film, but history has shown that crossing over from television fame to film can be tricky. Does anyone remember David Caruso?
Dobrev is no stranger to feature films, with her most notable role coming in the film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower . Ms. Dobrev has also appeared in Fugitive Pieces, Never Cry Werewolf , and Away from Her . If Nina can land a role in a long running franchise, whether in the young adult or the comic book superhero genres, her film career would be easily established, allowing Dobrev to sift through starring roles and bit parts in between sequels. The time to move is now, reports Web Pro News , pointing out that Nina is turning 26 this week and preparing to springboard off of a highly successful television series.
In fact, Dobrev, together with her Vampire Diaries co-star and former boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, walked away from the People’s Choice Awards with the award for Favorite TV Duo on Wednesday. Nina and Ian were chosen for the award over Supernatural ‘s Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Castle ‘s Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic were also in the running.
The future remains unclear for Nina Dobrev, as to whether she can make the transition to a major film blockbuster or whether she will remain a fixture in television, where Dobrev’s fanbase has already been established, but one thing is certain – Ms. Dobrev is on the lookout for just the right project, and her fans can probably count on seeing her on the big screen in the near future.
Dobrev may be looking for bigger things, but Nina hasn’t let go of past grudges and that may hurt her chances of being chosen for feature film franchises. Earlier this week, the Inquisitr reported that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are still feuding on set.
