Sia Addresses ‘Elastic Heart’ Pedophilia Controversy On Twitter

Sia caused quite a bit of controversy with the music video for her tune “Elastic Heart.” Since the clip has generated quite a bit of buzz online, the Australian singer decided to address all of the negative comments on Twitter.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, the video finds Shia LaBeouf wrestling with Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler, the latter of whom is just 12-years-old. According to Billboard, it didn’t take very long for people to cry “pedophilia,” which Sia firmly disputes.

Although people didn’t seem to mind Ziegler’s performance in the music video for Sia’s tune “Chandelier,” apparently people draw the line at watching the pre-teen wrestle with a grown man. Sia insists she didn’t intend for the clip to come across as pedophilia and quickly addressed the controversy in a series of Twitter posts.

Yahoo! Music explains that the clip features Maddie and Shia battling it out inside a giant birdcage. The interaction between the pre-teen and the Nymphomaniac star definitely raises a few eyebrows, though the aforementioned outlet admits it’s something to see.

“#IAMSORRY to admit, but the choreography – and, yes, the slightly disturbing chemistry between the preteen and the 28-year-old actor — is hard to tear one’s eyes from. The video closes with 45 seconds of music-free interaction between Ziegler and LaBeouf that is, again, oddly moving.”

Although Sia’s new tune may have started tongues wagging, that isn’t stopping people from singing its praises. After all, sometimes the best way to get people chatting about your project is to toss a fair amount of controversy into the recipe.
