A deer attacked a hunter who had wounded him with an arrow. The table-turning event happened in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Local police officers report that an unnamed 72-year-old bow hunter was hurt when the injured doe charged and attacked.

Found du Lac County Sheriff Jeff Bonack said the bow hunter attacked by the deer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The condition of the elderly hunter is currently unknown. “I’m guessing the deer got away,” Sheriff Bonack said.

The Wisconsin man was hunting with a crossbow around 7:30 p.m. last Friday when he wounded a doe with at least one arrow and set about tracking the deer. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says that the bow hunter was traversing thick brush when the doe jumped out from a hiding spot and “struck” the Wisconsin man in the leg with her head.

Prior to the deer attacking the bow hunter, the 72-year-old man had been hunting in familiar woods with family members. The doe attacked the hunter in the Taycheedah area, which is about 70 miles northwest of Milwaukee. The 72-year-old crossbow hunter was reportedly on the Peebles Trail near Highway K.

Twitter posts began in a flurry after the deer attacking the hunter story went viral. Many tweets by individuals opposed to hunting cheered on the doe, some appearing to rejoice that the elderly hunter was injured. Posters which would likely not used derogatory terms to describe an individual based upon their race or sexual preference freely tossed about the term “redneck” in reference to the hunter, despite knowing nothing about the injured senior citizen.
