Jameis Winston Chant: Oregon Players Chant ‘No Means No’ At Florida State Quarterback Accused Of Rape

Jameis Winston suffered one of the most difficult games of his college career in the Rose Bowl, and afterward several Oregon Ducks players mocked the Florida State quarterback by chanting “no means no.”

Several players are reportedly facing discipline after mocking Winston, who was accused of rape but later cleared of the charges. Video taken from the field as Oregon celebrated its 59-20 win in the College Football Playoff semifinal showed several players chanting “no means no” to the tune of Florida State’s “Warchant.”

Oregon dealt with the issue swiftly. Within minutes, coach Mark Helfrich apologized and vowed to discipline the players involved.

“We are aware of the inappropriate behavior in the postgame. This is not what our program stands for, and the student-athletes will be disciplined internally,” he said in a statement.

Winston was accused of rape by a Florida State coed in 2012. He never faced charges in the incident, and an investigation by the university later cleared him during a formal hearing.

During the process, Winston read a statement claiming his innocence.

ESPN posted the remarks online, as follows.

“I did not rape or sexually assault [the accuser]. I did not create a hostile, intimidating or offensive environment in the short period of time that we were together. [The accuser] had the capacity to consent to having sex with me and she repeatedly did so by her conduct and her verbal expressions. I never used physical violence, threats, or other coercive means towards [the accuser]. Finally, I never endangered [the accuser’s] health, safety, or well-being.”

Winston went on to say that he did have sexual intercourse with the accuser, but stressed that it was consensual.

In Saturday’s loss to Oregon, Winston played one of the most trying games of his college career, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown and losing a fumble.

It is not clear what discipline that Oregon players could face for the “no means no” chant directed at Jameis Winston. A short video, uploaded to Vine by Bear Heiser of Fox Sports West, showed linebacker Torrodney Prevot and redshirt freshman Kani Benoit. Another longer video showed more players mocking Winston.
