Anthony D’Ambrosio’s divorce letter to his ex-wife has gone viral. The open letter to the woman he lost has left many readers accusing him of being selfish. The 29-year-old New Jersey man published the divorce letter to his ex-wife as a part of a relationship series by Asbury Park Press .
The New Jersey man who wrote the now viral divorce letter, met his ex-wife when they were 18 and the couple got married in 2012. Anthony D’Ambrosio works for Apple and lives in the town of Wall. The divorce letter is entitled, “To my ex-wife: I wish I would have held you tighter.” D’Ambrosio also wrote a letter about cheating for a Gannett paper in November which was reportedly read by more than five million people.
The divorce letter to the ex-wife is an overview of the couple’s relationship from the time they met until they divorced. “‘I never imagined you and I, out of all the people in this world, would go through something so devastating as we did,” D’Ambrosio wrote. “Throughout the years, we created the most beautiful memories. We climbed all the way to the top together, only to slip and fall as soon as we got there. And though I may have contributed to that fall, I tried so hard to hold on to you.”
The writer does not go into specific details about what prompted the couple to split, he only states that he has done things which he cannot undo and is not proud of. He writes that letting his wife go shattered his heart into millions of pieces, but did so in the effort that she could find true happiness. “I guess it goes without saying that you made all of that feel real for me; you helped make most of those dreams come true. I wanted nothing more than to be the best husband, a romantic lover, the most selfless provider, and one day, the world’s best dad.”
The viral divorce letter also states that Anthony D’Ambrosio never got the chance to say so many things to her, like how much he enjoyed the way she answered the phone. He compares their relationship and marriage to a trip to Disney World. He said that after a while their visit to the magic kingdom “in this theme park we call life” came to an abrupt stop. “You were gone. Suddenly, everything that was so familiar about life felt so foreign. I was lost without you. All I had left were my memories and dreams of us that I knew would never come true.”
D’Ambrosio said also that their lives needed to fall apart so they cut put them back together the way they “were meant to be.” The New Jersey man added that after the divorce he threw himself into work and discovered a new passion for writing. During an interview with USA Today , D’Ambrosio said that he decided to write the divorce letter to clear the air with his ex-wife after a time of animosity. He maintains that the essay is not an attempt to get back together with his ex-wife and noted that she is currently involved with someone else.
