Jessie J Reveals Miley Cyrus’ Success Paid Her Rent
English singer and songwriter Jessie J is one of the biggest pop stars today, but the singer reveals that it wasn’t always that way.
Jessie, born Jessica Ellen Cornish, said in an interview that one of Miley Cyrus’ hits paid her rent for several years. Jessie J wrote the 2009 track “Party in the U.S.A.” for Cyrus’ 2009 album The Time of Our Lives. The song was initially intended for Jessie, but producers decided that the song was not edgy enough for the singer. The lyrics were tweaked and passed on to Miley Cyrus.
“You’ve got to write songs, that’s where the money is, being an artist. ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ paid my rent for, like, three years. Actually, it was way longer than that. That’s where I get most of my money. I write songs. I’m a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that’s all added on.”
According to Daily Mail, Jessie J also wrote songs for Lisa Lowes and Chris Brown. “Party in the U.S.A.” became an instant hit among Miley Cyrus fans.
“I recorded ‘Party in the U.S.A.’, played it for the label but they didn’t think it was right for me. So they pitched it and two weeks later it was number one in six countries.”
Aside from her revelation, Jessie J also commented on the type of songs that are released by other female artists.
“All women are saying, singing, and speaking about the same thing, but in their own way – love, heartbreak, reassurance, sexiness, belief, how we look, how we feel. We’re all singing about it and doing it.”
Jessie J’s songwriting is paying off, as she is now enjoying a beach holiday. The singer has been sharing a series of photos on Instagram showing off her toned body in a red bikini. According to the Mirror, her holiday snaps caused a frenzy, as some Instagram users say that she was revealing too much of her body. Jessie J defended herself by saying that users were being negative and were reading too much into the picture. She said that what they say is a body part is actually just a shadow.
“It’s a shadow people, rest your negative thumbs this Christmas. Or maybe forever? Lol, New Years resolution maybe?”
