Is Madonna Slamming Lady Gaga On Her New Album?

Even though Madonna is enjoying some of the strongest critical response she’s had since releasing Confessions On A Dancefloor a decade ago, you might have seen that she’s not too happy about the fact that her new material has been leaked to the public in the form of rough demo tracks. Currently, more than 20 of the unfinished tracks are floating around, including one that some have interpreted as another barbed attack in the long-simmering cat fight between Lady Gaga and Madonna herself.

The track, called “Two Steps Behind” does appear to reiterate certain arguments that Madonna has made about Lady Gaga being a “reductive” version of her over the years. Check out the video below before it gets taken down by YouTube.

“You’re a copycat, Where is my royalty? You’re a pretty girl, I’ll give you that. But stealing my recipe, it’s an ugly look.”

Even if the song does sound suspiciously like another punch thrown by Madonna, her press representative, Guy Oseary, has taken to Twitter to deny that the song has anything to do with Lady Gaga. He also stated that Madonna had no intention of releasing the song in the first place, and that it not only wasn’t referencing Lady Gaga, but not specifically calling out any celebrity in particular.

Mutual fans of Madonna and Lady Gaga seem to be once again caught in a compromising position. Even though Madonna’s rep says that Lady Gaga wasn’t the target, the lyrics seem to disagree with his statement that the song isn’t about anyone in particular. Of course, that can be chalked up to artistic license, but it’s not like Madonna has made any apologies to Lady Gaga following her very public disses. That bad blood could make for some interesting music, suggest some pop music lovers.

Do you think Madonna is re-opening her quarrel with Lady Gaga?
