White Teacher Sues School For Racism: Says He Was Targeted In Mostly Black And Latino School
A white teacher is suing a school where he taught over racism. Paugh William Shadow from Port Jarvis, New York, believes he was unfairly targeted by the middle school he worked at in the Bronx, which has a mostly black and Latino population. Shadow adds that it was three years before he was given a key to the restroom.
According to the New York Post, Shadow from MS 391 filed a lawsuit against the city and the Department of Education, Manhattan Supreme Court documents reveal.
Shadow claims in the lawsuit that he was “falsely accused of corporal punishment, using derogatory language and leaving his post; and that school administrators refused to back him up on disciplinary matters and failed to reimburse him after he bought materials for his science-lab students,” the report says.
The white teacher claims charges were dismissed that he had allegedly marched sixth-grade students up-and-down a set of stairs for over five minutes as a disciplinary measure.
Shadow explains that he “was humiliated in front of his peers,” and that school officials “discriminated against [him] due to his gender and race.”
The damages Shadow is seeking are unspecified in the lawsuit.
In its contribution to the story, Gothamist shares that Shadow has worked at the middle school for several years. His teaching profile at the Bronx school is now deleted, but Shadow taught seventh grade mathematics and science.
The profile read, “Dr. Shadow has taught overseas as well in NYC. Besides Science, Dr. Shadow has a passion for acting and has been on TV shows, commercials, movies and video games.”
Gothamist specifies that the middle school is Angelo Patri Middle School in the South Bronx. The school’s website states that 520 students attend the educational facility and accommodate sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.
In August of this year, a white teacher sued a high school in Prince George’s County, Maryland, for discrimination. Daily Caller reports that Jon Everhart won $350,000 in the lawsuit that was filed back in 2010. Trouble at Largo High School began for the English teacher, when a Hispanic gym teacher told students that the only reason a white teacher works at the school is because he cannot get a job anywhere else. Later on, a principal at the school in 2007 allegedly called him “white trash” and “white b**ch.”
Everhart got $350,000 in compensatory damages for heart problems and high blood pressure, as a result of the stress he endured from the racist treatment that he received.
