Wondering if restaurants are open Christmas Day? Surprisingly, there is a long list of restaurants open on December 25 for sit-down and buffet-style meals. If cooking and doing dishes is not your idea of holiday fun, check the list below to find out if popular chain restaurants like Golden Corral , Hometown Buffet, Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, Starbucks, Ruth’s Chris, and McDonald’s are open or closed on Christmas.
Dining out is not only a great way to avoid doing dishes, it’s also a welcome break for those who work on the holiday or spend Christmas Day alone. While there aren’t as many sit-down and buffet-style restaurants open on Christmas as there were on Thanksgiving, if your only choice is having a frozen meal at home, there are a few restaurants open that will likely have better fare than that tasteless TV dinner that’s taking up space in your freezer.
At least 20 chain restaurants will be open on December 25, including Hometown Buffet, Boston Market, TGI Fridays, Panda Express, and Denny’s.

Those who prefer a drive-thru over sitting down and eating alone are probably hoping that what Nation’s Restaurant News refers to as the top five restaurant chains — McDonald’s, Subway, Starbucks, Burger King, and Wendys — are open for a quick bite to eat on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, most fast-food chains will be closed, but some franchises will be open in select locations. Make a quick call to find out what the chain’s holiday hours are if you can’t live without that Frappuccino or Big Mac on Thursday.

Cracker Barrel is a very popular dining spot on Thanksgiving, but unfortunately the famous restaurant with the country store will close early on Christmas Eve and won’t re-open until December 26. Golden Corral’s holiday hours vary by location, with many of the company’s 500 locations open with a full holiday buffet. Other buffet-style restaurants that will be open holiday hours are Country Buffet and Homestyle Buffet, but it’s always best to call ahead to make sure the location near you is open for business on Christmas Day.
If you are looking for a more upscale sit-down holiday meal, there are a few restaurants open on Christmas that don’t have drive-throughs or a noisy buffet. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Legal Seafoods, Bucca di Beppo, and McCormick & Schmick’s will all be open on December 25.

If lobster, prime rib, chicken marsala, or lasagna sound like something you’d enjoy, all four restaurants will be offering a full menu as well as some holiday specials. Most locations open around 11 a.m., but it’s best to call ahead and make reservations or you’ll end up waiting in a very long line.
Will you be cooking Christmas dinner or heading out to eat on December 25?
