Kaley Cuoco Strangest Haircut? ‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Appears On This List
Kaley Cuoco made celebrity news this year for her personal and professional milestones. There was the New Year’s Eve marriage to husband Ryan Sweeting, those lucrative Big Bang Theory contract negotiations and, oh yes, the haircut. Yesterday, Extra TV named Cuoco’s cropped locks as the most-searched celebrity hairstyle of 2014. But that wasn’t the only end-of-year list that singled out Cuoco’s pixie cut.
ET Online gave the Big Bang Theory star the dubious distinction of having the third “strangest” haircut of 2014. The website points to one styling in particular: the 60s-inspired look she sported at the Vanity Fair-sponsored opening of a new Vera Wang store in Los Angeles.
“It pains us to put ‘Big Bang Theory’ [star] Kaley Cuoco on the list, but the pixie cut she got in June when her hit CBS show wrapped has definitely not been the most flattering look on the red carpet.”
When Cuoco first appeared with the short hair, she gushed about its new fashion possibilities. Inspired by Michelle Williams’ similar look, she said her Big Bang Theory bosses were supportive of a new image for Penny. Indeed, when The Big Bang Theory debuted its eighth season this fall, Penny had a new job as a pharmaceutical rep, was engaged to Leonard, and was sporting the new cut.
As for that specific styling for the Vanity Fair event, Cuoco said on Instagram it was 60s-inspired.
ET Online went on to say that the short hair made Cuoco look older, and not in a good way. Cuoco’s pixie was behind Hilary Duff’s topknot and Robert Pattinson’s bowl cut on the “strange” list.
Ironically, in Spring 2013, Cuoco told People that sporting a different haircut — bangs — on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild awards was a mistake she would never make again. She said the hair distracted from the rest of her style.
“I will never do that again! That was my faux pas, and because of that, they hated everything: the [Romona Keveza] dress, my shoes, everything.”
But this time around, Cuoco is making no apologies. She’s taking to social media to thank her Big Bang Theory fans for standing by her.
Thank you for being so nice about my new haircut, #Justbeyou

True to Kaley’s assessment that her short hair would not only be appropriate for her Big Bang Theory character, but open up new style possibilities, the actor sported a swept up look at the People magazine awards earlier this month. Cuoco’s Christine Symonds stylist explained how she made it work.
“Kaley’s look tonight was sexy and edgy. Her dress was heavily embellished so we kept the hair up and off her face with tons of texture.”
The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays on CBS.
