Janay Palmer, Ray Rice’s Wife, Explains The Elevator Fight Video In Her Own Words
Janay Palmer, Ray Rice’s wife, has steadfastly stood by her husband during the whole hearing, demanding that the NFL reinstate Rice since they had already punished the former Baltimore Ravens player once with a two-day suspension.
In a related report by the Inquisitr, Janay Palmer was furious that her husband was suspended indefinitely without pay, even after they underwent a police investigation for their elevator fight. Ray Rice has a wrongful termination grievance against the Ravens that will be heard on January 15, 2015, but otherwise, the family has no income since Rice also lost the endorsement deals with companies like Nike.
Janay Rice also revealed that it was not her idea to publicly apologize for being a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband, and that the Ravens handed her script.
“They basically gave us a general script,” she said. “That was frustrating for me because, obviously, people took it as I’m taking light off of what Ray did. In no way. I was basically, doing what I was told, but at the same time I didn’t think it was completely wrong for me to apologize, because at the end of the day, I got arrested too. I did something wrong too. Not taking any light off what Ray did because I agree with everybody else, it was wrong.”
Ray, on the other hand, seems to believe that his wife shouldn’t be held responsible for anything.
“We were given what to speak about. It wasn’t truly coming from us, if you can understand, but I made that clear in my last time I was able to speak that my wife is an angel. She can do no wrong. I take full responsibility for my actions.”
When Janay Palmer spoke to ESPN, this is how she recalls the exact events that took place during the elevator fight video. Janay recalls “drinking and having a good time,” and the “six of us shared two to three bottles of liquor.” Unfortunately, this led to them becoming “drunk and tired,” and she claims her husband and the four friends cannot “remember exactly what Ray and I were arguing about. It was that insignificant.”
Unfortunately, Janay Rice doesn’t remember too many details from the elevator fight video.
“As we were arguing, he was on his phone and not looking at me. I went to reach for his phone, and when he grabbed it back, he spit at me and I slapped him. We got into the elevator and what happened inside is still foggy to me. The only thing I know — and I can’t even say I ‘remember’ because I only know from what Ray has told me — is that I slapped him again and then he hit me. I remember nothing else from inside the elevator. The next thing I do recall is being in the casino lobby, surrounded by cops. The police separated us and arrested us. They told me they had the entire incident on video. I was bawling. The cops tried to tell me what happened and I refused to believe them. If anything, I just felt like I was still drunk. I said to one officer, ‘That’s not us. What do you mean?’ There were no marks on my face or body, and I felt perfectly fine. I was in complete shock.”
Janay says Ray “kept crying and apologizing” while locked in the police station for about six hours. But she recalls being “in a fog” during the whole incident.
One major detail she did not relate of the elevator fight video is that the anger cooled after the fight, and the couple is shown kissing in the elevator as they are both being led away on charges of assault while in handcuffs (police later dropped Janay’s charges).
What do you think of Janay Palmer’s recounting of the elevator fight video? Should Ray Rice be reinstated in the NFL?
