Since last week, every wrestling fan seems to be talking about one thing: WWE NXT. WWE was clear to not mention anything NXT-related on RAW and SmackDown in reference to the great NXT program called NXT Takeover: R Evolution . It is said that the main roster saw NXT’s show, but were told to not be blown away by it, and simply show why they are on the main roster making the money while NXT is still developmental.
WWE TLC was not a bad PPV, but it lacked in comparison to what NXT did that Thursday. It was said that TLC was better just because of NXT. So literally the entire game was changed with one show by none other than the developmental guys. Talk about stepping up, right? However, many want to know who was behind some of the great creative concepts we saw at Takeover .
The main creative writer behind it all was Ryan Ward . Ward has been with WWE since 2009. He has held a Writing Assistant, Associate Writer, Sr. Writer, and now Lead Writer position in WWE. He has proven his worth to WWE in NXT for sure.
In 2013, it was reported by the Wrestling Observer , “WWE writer Ryan Ward, who is on the SmackDown/RAW writing crew, is very well liked by people at NXT, where he also writes TV. Ward wrote five different episodes at the last NXT tapings and it was said to be the best taping they have had.”
We can imagine that he’ll probably be seeing the main roster again on a regular basis sooner rather than later due to the impressive NXT shows as of late. Of course, final approval came from Triple H for the R Evolution show as expected. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had absolutely nothing to do with the show. This is not surprising to many.
What Triple H has done with NXT is great. However, he has not only signed the talent we see in NXT today, but he has also brought in great creative minds to NXT and was given them free reign to just be, well, creative.
If NXT is any indication of what the future of WWE is, I think any doubts about content will go out the window. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon may not be people that are beloved on TV, most wrestling fans can tell you that the two people know the wrestling product quite well. We may not always agree with everything, but if we can get even 70 percent of what we want in the future, WWE will be fun to watch.
The future is bright, and hopefully Ryan Ward can be part of it and be considered a god among men with his ability to make WWE programming great on a regular basis once again.
