Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ Hits The 1 Million Mark In The States

Sam Smith has a ton to celebrate this holiday season. Not only is he leading the Grammy nominations with Beyonce, but he also just set another new record with his album In the Lonely Hour.

According to Billboard, Sam Smith’s first full-length album has surpassed the million mark in the United States. For 2014, it’s only the third album to sell more than a million, and is one of the biggest critically acclaimed albums of the year.

The other two albums that are up there in the million mark with Sam Smith’s are Taylor Smith’s 1989 with 3 million and the Frozen soundtrack with 3.4 million.

Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour has stayed in the top ten on the Billboard charts for 19 weeks. So far, every single that Smith has released from the album has been a top hit like, “Stay With Me” and “I’m Not the Only One.”

As for Sam Smith’s personal life, that seems to be going well too. As the Inquisitr reported the crooner is dating. So who is Sam going steady with? Well, from the looks of it, he’s dating an extra that he met on the set of his music video “Like I Can.” The two hit it off and have been getting to know each other over the last few months. That said, Smith is open about his very new relationship.

“It’s very early days. I’m talking very, very, very early days. But he’s really sweet. I met him on the video for ‘Like I Can,’ he was one of 20 extras.”

Although everyone wants to put a label on the relationship, Smith told the Sun that he’s not sure if they’re doing that just yet.

“It’s a surreal thing to be talking about because I haven’t even confirmed with him that we’re officially seeing each other.”

Earlier in the year Smith said that his album was about unrequited love.

“[My debut album] In the Lonely Hour is about a guy that I fell in love with last year, and he didn’t love me back. I think I’m over it now, but I was in a very dark place. I kept feeling lonely in the fact that I hadn’t felt love before. I’ve felt the bad things. And what’s a more powerful emotion: pain or happiness?”

Smith is currently on tour supporting the chart-topping album.
