WWE throughout the years is known for their little jabs on commentary, during promos or in the ring. For example, CM Punk’s feud with Triple H incorporated a lot of reality into it. His mentions of not being a bodybuilder were as real as Punk could get three years ago. It truly was a short feud to remember because both men purely didn’t like each other. They still don’t to this day, which can give the WWE fans a glimpse at how much resentment there really was.
NXT R Evolution provided the WWE Universe with one of the best wrestling shows in years. Considering how the WWE has been operating throughout the last couple of years with their complacency, NXT is on the verge of overtaking their star power with some of their own. Since everybody watched the NXT Takeover special last week, the WWE decided to get creative.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter , Corey Graves made comments about his health, and how the WWE doctors told him that retirement from the ring would be beneficial. However, during the mini-promo about Graves’ health, the WWE took what is being described as a “cheap shot” at CM Punk.
For those who saw the NXT Takeover: R Evolution special on the WWE Network last Thursday, you saw former wrestler Corey Graves talk about how WWE’s “world-class doctors” advised him to retire after concussion issues.
Apparently the Graves segment where he made that comment was purposely planned, partially designed as a shot towards CM Punk
It’s being said that Graves’ comments were aimed directly at the remarks Punk made on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast. Whatever the case may be, the WWE still isn’t done striking back against Punk whenever they get the chance. Punk did say crude things about the wrestling business, with WWE being the focal point of those “attacks. However, in the wrestling industry, a short-term memory is often the best memory.
Punk is not in conversation with the company by any stretch of the imagination. AJ Lee, Punk’s wife, is still with them, but that means nothing to Punk. Rumor has it that she is on the verge of leaving the company very soon. She wants to start a family and live her life with the man she married. Isn’t that the “American Dream?”
If this holds as true and the WWE really did take a cheap shot, it won’t bring CM Punk any closer to the WWE. In fact, he’s now distanced himself even more by beginning a relationship with the UFC. Punk signed a multi-fight deal with Dana White and the top-fighting company in the world. He isn’t affiliated with the WWE anymore, so there’s no just cause for more cheap shots. To be more realistic, they certainly aren’t done.
