Country singer Shania Twain recently released a public service announcement encouraging victims of domestic violence to seek immediate assistance and support.
“Sometimes home is where the hurt is. It’s really confusing to be hurt by someone you love. Whether it’s physical, sexual or emotional, abuse is abuse.”
Within her statement featured in the public service announcement, Shania Twain also mentions that domestic violence should never remain a secret and should be publicly exposed.
The 49-year-old singer went on to say that violence is never acceptable, especially when it is occurring within a person’s own home.
The online video featuring Shania Twain was released online by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Over her shoulder, a series of images depicting domestic violence and abuse are projected throughout the duration of the video.
Regardless of the type of abuse (sexual, physical or emotional), Shania Twain reminds viewers that “abuse is abuse” and all incidents should be reported to police.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ( RCMP ), 26 percent of violent crimes reported to the police involve some form of domestic violence within the family home.
