9/11 Christmas Day Threat Against Movie Theaters Not Credible, Says U.S. Department Of Homeland Security About Sept. 11 Style Attack From Sony Hackers
On Tuesday, reports from the Sony hackers warning about a “9/11” style type of terrorist attack against movie theaters showing the controversial movie The Interview were released, as reported by the Inquisitr, and the ominous warnings from the Sony hackers — who urged moviegoers to stay away from all movie theaters showing The Interview (and even told folks to leave their homes if they lived near movie theaters) ratcheted up the fear by mentioning September 11, 2001.
“Warning. We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places ‘The Interview’ be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to. Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY. [sic]”
The 9/11 Christmas Day threat could be without merit, despite all the hoopla. The U.S. Department Of Homeland Security moved swiftly to release statements about the Sept. 11 style of attack threatened by the Sony hackers, reports Variety, claiming that the 9/11 type of threats from the Sony hackers appear to be unconfirmed.
Although the U.S. Department of Homeland Security website has yet to update their website with an official statement about the 9/11 style of threats to movie theaters showing The Interview on Christmas Day, ABC News and other outlets are reporting that Homeland Security has reviewed the most recent 9/11 threats from the Sony hackers, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has stated that it has found no active plots in the works against movie theaters in the United States that plan to show The Interview.
Although a DHS official states they are aware of the 9/11 threats against movie theaters on Christmas Day, the DHS is still reviewing the threats.
“We are still analyzing the credibility of these statements, but at this time there is no credible intelligence to indicate an active plot against movie theaters within the United States.”
As of this writing, The Interview is set to be released on Christmas Day, and although stars James Franco and Seth Rogen have canceled appearances amid the 9/11 threats, Sony has not announced a decision to pull the movie from theaters.
