Christina Hendricks Joins Cast Of Showtime’s ‘Roadies’
Christina Hendricks is the newest addition for the pilot for a brand new Showtime series called Roadies. With the addition of the Mad Men veteran actress, it appears Roadies is going to have some heavy hitters lending it their support. Christina Hendricks joins director Cameron Crowe as two of the most well known names attached to the project. Hendricks, who plays Joan in the AMC hit series, is going to have the same basic kind of role in the Showtime series.
Christina will step into the role of Shelli, who is the the production manager for a ultra-popular touring band that is central to the show, according to the LA Times. If the pilot is any indication of what Roadies is going to be about, Crowe is taking a unique angle on the usual story about a popular rock band. Instead of musicians being front and center and the stars of this show, it will be the people normally in the background who get the most attention.
This seems to indicate that Christina Hendricks’ character of Shelli will be far more important to this telling of the tale than most people would expect for a production manager. Along with Hendricks, other notable cast members include Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Peter Cambor, and Keisha Castle-Hughes. Crowe is directing Roadies as well as serving as the executive producer alongside My So Called Life creator Winnie Holzman who is the lead writer. JJ Abrams has also been connected to this project.
Christina has built quite the career for herself, having once been best known for a bit part on the now defunct science fiction series Firefly. It seems Hendricks’ turn as Joan has catapulted her into the national discourse when talking about the most popular television actresses of this generation. While Christina hasn’t had as much success on the silver screen as she has the boob tube, Hendricks is starting to find a career there as well.
Christina is set for a role in Dark Places an adaptation of a best selling novel by Gillian Flynn. Christina being able to star in a film created by the same person who did Gone Girl means that Hendricks is certainly becoming more well known and is having more roles open to her. If her appearance as Joan on Mad Men is any indication, Christina Hendricks will be able to take the role of Shelli and shine on Roadies.
