‘American Horror Story’: Neil Patrick Harris And Hubby, David Burtka, Join The ‘Freak Show’, Filming Done
The world already knows that Neil Patrick Harris has a multitude of talents and he’s not afraid to attempt new and exciting ventures when it comes to anything entertainment related; although his recent tweet after wrapping filming for his guest-starring role on two episodes of American Horror Story indicates he may have found himself a tad outside his comfort zone. Harris shared his thoughts with fans.
Just finished filming my last scene for American Horror Story. I need to take a shower. Wash off all this horror.

The popular horror anthology series is currently in its fourth season. This season follows the struggles for survival of the last remaining American freak show in and around 1952. American Horror Story has gained an enormous following thanks to the brilliant actors who have made recurring appearances on the thrilling and innovative anthology. Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Grossman, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett,Gabourey Sidibe, Grace Gummer and Danny Huston have all been a part of making this series gem in the genre of TV horror.
Neil Patrick Harris has landed himself in the middle of the psycho-drama as a highly anticipated guest star. He plays ” a chameleon salesman in episodes 11 and 12.” As Design&Trend reports, ” In October, American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy announced that Harris will appear in at least two episodes of the show.” However, Harris will not be the only notable guest star in the 4th season. Neil Patrick’s own hubby, David Burtka, is also scheduled to guest star, playing out “a sexy story line with Jessica Lange’s Elsa Mars.”
Back in October, Murphy shared his hopes for Harris appearing on American Horror Story: Freak Show, stating, “[Harris is] game; he had very specific ideas about what he wanted to do and I have specific ideas. We’re working on melding those.”
And so it seems they have achieved this and then some while bringing in Burtka, who along with Neil Patrick Harris, had actually been offered a starring role on the show in the first installment of the anthology. Both Burtka and “How I Met Your Mother” star Harris turned the original roles down, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Long before Twisty the Clown made his debut on this season of the FX show, American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy asked Harris and his husband, David Burtka, to play a couple in the show’s first season, Murder House. But the two had just played a dysfunctional “couple” in A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, and Harris didn’t want a repeat—so the roles went to Zachary Quinto and Teddy Sears instead.”
Harris expressed his regrets to Sirius XM back in October on turning down the initial offer from Murphy for he and Burtka to play a couple in American Horror Story: Murder House in 2011, stating, “I said, ‘I just don’t want us to be known as a couple that don’t like each other.’ And then wouldn’t you know, ‘American Horror Story’ is a big, gigantic success and super awesome.”
Harris’ first appearance at the freak show on FX’s American Horror Story will air on January 7.
