That Willow And Jaden Smith Interview Got The Attention Of Sony Executives
Willow and Jaden Smith caught more than passing attention when they gave that unconventional interview to T magazine last month. The scions of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith ended up on the radar of Sony executives as private emails released by hackers reveal.
The Daily Beast reported that an email exchange between high-level executives included an online copy of the younger Smiths’ interview and this comment:
“1. Read this. 2. they r home schooled: don’t let this family date your movies!!!”
While The Daily Beast reports the email was sent from Tom Rothman, the head of TriStar Productions, to Amy Pascal, Sony Pictures co-chairman, a screenshot of the exchange published on Vibe reveals it went to Pascal through Doug Belgrad. Belgrad is the President of Columbia Pictures and President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Pictures Group, according to Sony’s official site.
The T magazine interview caused a stir because of the pair’s unconventional statements, such as the fact that Willow does not believe in time and Jaden has “a goal to be just the most craziest person of all time.” The Guardian brushed off the interview as nonsense.
“Nobody in Hollywood does clattering incomprehensibility better than Jaden Smith. Aside, that is, from his 14-year-old sister Willow[.]”
Sony has been the victim of a hacker who has released reams of private information about the company and its stars. One email exchange saw Sony executives insult Angelina Jolie as a “minimally talented spoiled brat,” which lead to an awkward in-person meeting between Pascal and Jolie.
If Willow and Jaden Smith are bothered by the negative reaction, either from Sony executives in private or journalists in public, they are not making any changes to their unique public discourse. Jaden tweeted Willow a unique piece of philosophy on November 30, less than two weeks after the T magazine article was published.
“@OfficialWillow: pic.twitter.com/0Oqk0QPdao” Wow

Willow herself made reference to the renowned Caltech physicist, Kip Thorne, in a tweet of her own on December 5.
Me and Kip Thorne need to have a conversation.

But it was not long ago that Willow and Jaden Smith were lauded, even by conventional media, for their uniqueness. In October of this year, Vogue complimented the pair for their personal intellectual and professional pursuits.
“Celebrity culture isn’t exactly known for spawning grounded, engaged kids, which is why it’s so refreshing to watch Willow and Jaden Smith as they find their creative footing.”
