Dutchman Hired A Humongous Crane For A Grand Marriage Proposal – It Went Smashingly In The Most Literal Of Ways

Lovers proposing marriage often try to think of the most elaborate of plans, but few have the courage — or the budget — to pull it off. A Dutchman managed to get his grand marriage proposal underway, only to have it end in a disaster of equally gargantuan proportions. Surprisingly, the core act of proposing to his longtime girlfriend was successful.

The unidentified lover, who wished to make his grand appearance on the balcony of his girlfriend, hired the largest available crane he could find in the central town of Ijsselstein. His plan, though quite risky to begin with, was simple: Descend in front of his girlfriend’s bedroom window first thing Saturday morning, then play her a song and pop “the question,” reported Al.

True to his plan, the lover arranged for the crane to arrive on the location. The plan was to extend the arm of the crane over a building and then lower the gentleman gradually via a trolley. But before the crane could lower the man, it toppled, crashing into the very building it was supposed to lean over. Surprisingly, the man was in trolley the whole time, but quick-thinking on his part saved his life. Realizing his plan was being turned into a disaster of epic proportions, the man quickly clambered onto one of the roofs and ran to safety.

The crashing crane smashed a huge hole into the building. Thankfully, rescue officers who rushed to the scene shortly afterwards confirmed no one was injured. But the ordeal was far from over. A couple of hours into the accident, a larger crane was called to pull out the one that had crashed into the neighbor’s house. Though the larger crane managed to remove the offending one from the building, the process ended up making a bigger mess.

While being removed, the smaller crane fell again, causing an even bigger crater. Essentially, while being dragged out, the smaller crane significantly widened the hole it had created earlier. Officers, who couldn’t help but chuckle at the debacle, confirmed the smaller crane bashed in whatever was left of the neighbors’ roof on the second attempt.

Rescue officials have sealed the neighbors’ house and declared it unsafe until further notice. Moreover, two buildings on either side of the house were evacuated. Though it was disaster of magnum proportions, the girlfriend of the man said yes to him.

After profusely apologizing to the residents, the duo left, rather abruptly, to catch a flight to Paris to celebrate their engagement.
