Abandoned Puppies Found In Dog Food Bag Named After Santa’s Reindeer
The abandoned puppies found in a dog food bag on the side of a Texas highway have been given some festive names just in time for the holiday season, reported the Examiner. Anyone who is familiar with the story of Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer will already know the names given to the pups: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. None of the animals was given the name Rudolph, but Rudolph wasn’t part of Santa’s original sled team anyhow.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, an unidentified good Samaritan discovered the eight adorable puppies in a discarded dog food bag abandoned near a Texas mall on Thursday morning and transported them to a local veterinarian’s office. There is no word on how long the animals could have been trapped in a bag on the side of the road before someone heard their desperate cries coming from within the confines of the sack.
The furry animals were found to be in good health, but they were kept at North Houston Veterinary Specialists (NHVS) for 24 hours for observation before being turned over to a nonprofit animal shelter, Abandoned Animal Rescue (AAR) in Tomball, Texas, to await new homes, reported KHOU. A veterinarian who examined the abandoned puppies found in a dog food bag determined that they are Australian shepherd and Rottweiler mixes.
AAR is a low-cost spay/neuter clinic and no-kill shelter whose mission includes putting an end to unnecessary euthanasia of animals and finding forever homes for abandoned pets. The shelter is currently accepting donations to facilitate the building of a 10,000 square foot animal facility. A CrowdRisefundraising campaign seeking to raise $500,000 has only gained $1,030 thus far.
The shelter plans to build the new facility on five acres of land it already owns behind the existing structure. AAR outlined plans for expansion on the fundraising site.
“The new building will have indoor/outdoor dog kennels, a sunny cattery, a medical room, and a multi-purpose community room. The grounds include an interactive dog exercise area – Clark’s Bark Park – in memory of a young dog lover.”
If you adopted one of the pups, would you keep its reindeer-inspired moniker? Are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen the perfect names for the abandoned puppies found in a dog food bag during the holiday season? Your comments are welcome.
