Princess Charlene Of Monaco Gives Birth To Twin Babies, A Boy And A Girl
Officials from Monaco’s royal family have confirmed that Princess Charlene, the wife of Prince Albert II, has given birth to twin babies. Delivered through cesarean section, the royal twins are doing fine. The twins, a girl and a boy, have been named Gabriella Therese Marie and Jacques Honore Rainier, respectively, reports the Houston Chronicle. While the girl was born first, it would be the boy who would go on to become the heir to the throne of Monaco.
Palace officials have released a statement following the birth of the twin babies to Princess Charlene.
“It is with immense joy that TT.SS.HH the Prince and Princess of Monaco have the great pleasure to announce the birth of Their children named:
– Gabriella, Thérèse, Marie (born at 17h04)
– Jacques, Honoré, Rainier (born at 17h06)
The births took place on 10th December 2014 at the Maternity of the Princess Grace Hospital Monaco. The Princess and the Children are doing well.
The Prince Jacques, Honoré, Rainier is the Crown Prince. In accordance with the historic custom established by the treaty of Péronne (1641), He shall receive the title of Marquis of Baux (in Provence). The Princess Gabriella, Thérèse, Marie, second child in the line of succession, shall receive the title of Countess of Carladès (in Auvergne).”
The royal twins, Gabriella Therese Marie and Jacques Honore Rainier, are the descendants of the Grimaldi dynasty, which has been ruling the principality since the 13th century. Prince Albert, who also happens to be one of the wealthiest royals in the world, married Princess Charlene in March 2011 after a long courtship. Princess Charlene, a trained swimmer, represented South Africa in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The pregnancy of Princess Charlene was first announced earlier this year, as reported by the Inquisitr.
While the Grimaldi dynasty has been around for well over 800 years, this is the first time twins were born in the royal family. To mark the birth of the twin babies to Princess Charlene, traditional cannon fire was used.
Monaco is the second-smallest country in the world, with an area of just two square kilometers (0.8 square mile). It is also among the richest nations in the world. The principality is covered on all sides by France and has a population of just over 30,000.
Prince Albert II, the husband of Princess Charlene, is also famous for being the son of actress Grace Kelly.
