WWE News: Roman Reigns Wins Superstar Of The Year
Tonight’s WWE RAW featured the annual Slammy Awards edition, and the injured Roman Reigns won the WWE Superstar of the Year award, which was the final, and biggest award given out all night.
Reigns is set to return to WWE action at some point this month, however, that didn’t stop WWE from having Roman Reigns appear in front of the live crowd in Greenville, South Carolina to accept his award.
All of tonight’s WWE Slammy Award winners were chosen by the fans, however, it seems that there are some fans who don’t believe that WWE was actually counting the fans’ votes, rather, they just chose the winners themselves, and told the WWE fans they were counting their votes.
There was a certain amount of shock when Roman Reigns was announced as WWE’s Superstar of the Year, especially since WWE claimed the fans were voting, and bigger stars such as John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Daniel Bryan were on the ballot.
Before Reigns’s injury, WWE was pushing Reigns hard, hoping to make him their new top babyface. So, there is some chance that WWE ignored the fans’ voting, and just gave the award to Reigns as part of his push to the top.
When Reigns came out to accept his Superstar of the Year award, he received one of the bigger pops on the show, however, that’s not really saying much, as the crowd in Greenville was pretty much dead all night long.
Reigns’s acceptance speech was short and sweet. He talked about grabbing the “brass ring,” and indirectly responded to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s challenge to the WWE locker room to go out on a limb, step up and become WWE’s next big star.
“It’s not the ‘brass ring,’ but it’s pretty damn good, and I love it. It’s a step in the right direction, and speaking of steps, stepping up, I don’t care if it’s John Cena, Brock Lesnar, The Rock, Triple H, Vince McMahon himself, if you’re at the top of the stairs I’m stepping up, and you can believe that!”
There’s speculation that Reigns will return to in-ring action at the TLC pay-per-view, and get involved in the John Cena vs. Seth Rollins tables match main-event. If Reigns doesn’t appear at the TLC pay-per-view, he’ll likely be making his in-ring return on RAW the following night.
So, there you have it WWE fans. Roman Reigns is your WWE Superstar of the Year.
