‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Reshoots To Include Benedict Cumberbatch Cameo?
The Avengers: Age of Ultron reshoots are making fans everywhere wonder what’s going on behind the scenes. One popular rumor involves another recent announcement about the Avengers cast, with Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) having been confirmed to play Doctor Strange.
Before starring in his own movie, it’s been said that Cumberbatch might appear in other films in a role prior to becoming his super powered self.
When the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was shown for the first time, there had been scenes featuring a gurney and surgical equipment. Combine that with a mansion atop what appears to be a remote mountain, and it seems to indicate that the Sherlock actor might have a small cameo in the upcoming ensemble film.
Enstarz suggests it to be more likely that Benedict Cumberbatch will have his debut in Captain America: Civil War. This is still only speculation, and Cumberbatch could still debut as just a “nameless” surgeon in the Avengers: Age of Ultron reshoots.
That way Doctor Strange isn’t technically in the movie, but it’s a lot like seeing James Rhodes in Iron Man. He wasn’t War Machine yet, but he was there.
Another possibility is that Doctor Strange, or just Stephen Strange, will be in the post credits scene in the upcoming Avengers film. Something similar was done last time with a character we didn’t see again until Guardians of the Galaxy: Thanos.
With the Doctor Strange movie being planned for late 2016, it does seem a little early for casting choices to be finalized. It certainly would make more sense if Cumberbatch were to make a cameo as Stephen Strange a couple of times before gaining his powers as the Sorcerer Supreme and joining the Avengers.
Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as Doctor Strange, just in time for extra shooting on Avengers 2. Coincidence, surely.

It wouldn’t make much sense to have the Civil War begin and just have Captain America take refuge in the Sanctum Sanctorum before Doctor Strange has even been introduced. Stephen Strange would at least need to have some backstory, unless they’re planning to just plop him in like they’re doing with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. The siblings aren’t getting their own movie though, so it doesn’t make sense that way either.
It is still mere speculation exactly why the Avengers: Age of Ultron reshoots are happening so soon after the announcement of Benedict Cumberbatch joining the cast. The most likely scenario is that he shows up as world renowned surgeon Stephen Strange in a possibly uncredited cameo or post credits scene. Then we might hear about a horrible accident involving him, possibly as an Easter Egg in Ant-Man. Then he’s Doctor Strange when Captain America: Civil War is released, still learning his powers before he has his solo movie.
Do you think Benedict Cumberbatch might be part of the reason for the Avengers: Age of Ultron reshoots?
