‘It’s Thanos Against Everyone’ – Josh Brolin Dishes On Avengers Villain In ‘Infinity War’

It’s no secret that Marvel’s grand plan with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy is to bring together its two big franchises in a massive battle against Thanos. Now, Josh Brolin, the man behind Thanos’ face, is spilling some details on the AvengersGuardians big bad, and he says it’s all coming down to Thanos versus everyone else.

Ever since Thanos first showed his grinning, purple face in the stinger for the first Avengers movie, Marvel fans have been wondering when exactly the Mad Titan would get some actual on-screen action. Thanos had a bigger role in this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy, due to his role as the adoptive father of Gamora and Nebula, but moviegoers still have yet to see Thanos doing much more than speaking ominously and dispatching minions to handle his light work.

That’s likely to change in the coming years, though, as Marvel recently revealed the grand arc for its Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy properties. Marvel hasn’t confirmed it yet, but internet sleuths have dug up evidence that the Guardians of the Galaxy will indeed be crossing over with the Avengers in the future. That makes sense, given that one of the Infinity Stones – more about them here – appeared in a Guardians movie, plus the fact that the next two Avengers movies after next summer’s Age of Ultron are called Avengers: Infinity War.

When the Avengers and the Guardians do link up, Thanos will be the villain they face off against, and Josh Brolin thinks that his purple, wrinkle-chinned big bad will be up to the task, according to snippets from a talk he had with Collider.

“Ultimately it’s Thanos against everyone,” Brolin said. “So why wouldn’t you do that? I was more nervous doing that than I think I’ve been in a long time.”

Brolin was speaking of the motion capture work that goes into portraying Thanos. The coming years will likely see only more of Brolin donning the mo-cap gear, and the actor says that it’s an odd but interesting process.

“I was in front of thirty-two little cameras,” Brolin added, “and I had a face sprayed with iridescent paint. It’s really exciting, the possibilities of what it could become.”

Brolin didn’t give away too much more in the way of what we can expect to see of Thanos in future Marvel movies. He did, though, give a little insight into how he came to play the Marvel villain.

“I had a good friend Louis D’Esposito… and he and I used to train together,” Brolin said, noting that D’Esposito is now a Marvel co-president. “He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it. What I liked. What I didn’t like about the whole idea of it. But I love the idea of Thanos.”

That’s probably good, because Brolin’s commitment to the Marvel baddie likely runs for multiple films, most of which he won’t even be working on for some years to come. The next big bad guy for the Avengers is Ultron, who will stretch Marvel’s Mightiest to their limits this summer. We could see more Thanos in a couple years’ time when the Guardians of the Galaxy take to the screen for their second movie, but that’s uncertain. What’s certain, though, is that all eyes will be on Thanos come Infinity War, which just can’t get here soon enough.
