How To Win A Grammy Nomination
Every year the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences presents the Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The next event will air live on CBS and is scheduled for February 8, 2015. The Grammys were originally called The Gramophone Awards, and have been presented to deserving music artists in domestic and international categories since 1959.
Most independent artists can only dream about getting a Grammy Nomination, but the truth is that anyone can submit music for the process and, surprisingly, a lot of “famous unknowns” actually find their names and music making the hit-list. The slot to fill would be the Best New Artist category.
The Chicago Tribune reports that “a 22-year-old newcomer, U.K. soul-pop singer Sam Smith, joined Grammy mainstays Beyonce and Pharrell Williams with six nominations each on Friday for the 57th annual Grammy Awards.”
Of course, getting a Grammy Nomination is not exactly winning the Grammy Award, but it can certainly fan the flames of an artistic inner child and looks really good on a band’s website and resume. Unsigned or up-and-coming new artists can read all about the submission and voting process, which is already closed for 2014, so now would be a good time to get your ducks in a row for 2016.
Approximately 20,000 recordings in 30 fields and 83 categories are submitted to the recording academy by members and registered media companies. The only people who can vote are the academy’s voting members, and the results of that vote are the nominations.
