Green Monday is yet another online holiday shopping event, with special deals offered by thousands of retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, JC Penney — and just about anyone who uses the word “deal” to get customers to shop on their site on December 8.
Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are over, the deals will continue on the day Market Watch states is the “Green Monday” is the third biggest online shopping holiday of the year. Don’t be fooled by the name — it’s not a day of earth-friendly shopping. Instead, it’s a day retailers hope you’ll spend a little of your green cash — if you have any to spare after last week’s holiday sales.
“Green Monday — the second Monday in December — was coined by eBay in 2009 to mark its busiest sales day in December.”
What can shoppers expect during this one-day online sale? Amazon’s Green Monday sale will feature the popular line of Kindle Fire and Kindle e-readers as well as big discounts on TVs and video games. Some deals are available now, others will start first thing on Monday.
Fat Wallet reports that some online retailers will kick off Green Monday savings on Saturday and they will last right through Monday, December 8. JCPenney, Newegg, and Sears all have holiday deals going on this weekend, making it more like a “Green Weekend” than just a one-day sale.
Take time to compare prices if you plan to shop online Monday — this year retailers seem to be paying close attention to their competition, especially when it comes to that perk everyone loves: free shipping. A freebie is important for many consumers, especially when they are spending their hard-earned money during the holidays.
If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping yet, Green Monday — something Brads Deals calls a “drummed-up consumer event ” — may be a good time to check out the deals online. Rest assured there will be more sales if you miss it, including the upcoming Free Shipping Day on December 18.
