If you have wanted to see more of Gideon and/or flashbacks to younger versions of any of the profilers, you are in luck, because an upcoming Criminal Minds episode is going to be diving into the younger versions of Jason Gideon (originally played by Mandy Patinkin in the earlier seasons of the CBS procedural drama suspense series) and David Rossi (played by Joe Mantegna in the present and Robert Dunne in the flashbacks).
This Criminal Minds episode, slated to air in January, has begun filming, as Zap2it reports, based on photos posted by Ben Savage, who will be playing the younger version of Gideon, on Twitter and Instagram . Check out the photos of Savage’s script for the episode and from the set that the actor has posted below.

Gideon has been mentioned since his departure, but this will be the first time a version of the character is seen on Criminal Minds Season 3. The episode will see Rossi having flashbacks to the early days of the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the 70s, as he and Gideon were just starting out. A case in the present leads to Rossi recalling a case he worked on back then, and Dunne is returning to play young Rossi in those flashbacks alongside Savage. It has been described as “ a love letter to fans ,” as previously reported by the Inquisitr , with the show in its 10th season, and it is written by showrunner and executive producer Erica Messer and series star Kirsten Vangsness.
Also worth noting is that Stalker will be going on break in the spring when the latest CSI spinoff, CSI: Cyber , premieres on March 4, as reported by Hitfix . The series stars Patricia Arquette (who has already appeared on the original series in the franchise a couple of times), James Van Der Beek, Peter MacNicol, and Bow Wow. Stalker has been a pretty perfect pairing with Criminal Minds to make for quite a scary, suspenseful night of television, so don’t worry; the series starring Maggie Q and Dylan McDermott will return later this season.
Originally, CSI: Cyber was supposed to take over CSI’s Sundays at 10 p.m. time slot, but now CBS has decided to air Battle Creek , the new drama, starring Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters, from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, on Sundays, starting March 1.
Criminal Minds Season 10 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on CBS. What do you think of Ben Savage as a young Jason Gideon? Are you looking forward to seeing the character of Gideon again?
