David Guetta Wants The World To Dance And Cry
David Guetta is the master of the dance floor, but that doesn’t mean the French DJ isn’t interested in messing around with your tender emotions.
Instead of cranking out a by-the-numbers EDM album, Guetta crafted something a bit more heartfelt. However, don’t get David wrong — he still put together a batch of songs that can get your booty moving in the club. After all, Guetta doesn’t want to stray too far from the formula that made him one of the highest-paid DJs on the planet.
In case you haven’t noticed, David Guetta recently released Listen, his sixth studio album. While it would have been painfully easy for the guy to just churn out a big batch of generic dance tunes, the DJ opted to make things a bit more personal. In fact, Guetta hopes that the album makes you cry while you’re busting a move or two at the club.
According to CBC, the DJ put a little bit of his personal life into these new songs, so much so that fans may find themselves “dancing and crying.”
“It was a moment of questioning myself and maybe the lyrics are a little deeper than the usual dance music but the beat is really driving. Maybe it’s a wider range of emotions.”
It’s obvious that David Guetta is dealing with some issues in his personal life at the moment. The DJ recently split from his wife of 22 years, which may have influenced the songs he assembled for Listen. During a recent chat with the Belfast Telegraph, the DJ admitted that he’s in a pretty emotional place at the moment.
“For many years, my life was synonymous with party. When you’re into that, you never settle down. Right now, I’m in a midlife crisis. I’m questioning everything: my music, what’s important to me. These were things I thought were important that are less so now.”
And while it may seem that Guetta has this whole music thing figured out, he recently told the Irish Times that he didn’t have a detailed plan when he started work on Listen.
“I made a choice to go into something I didn’t fully understand [when making Listen.] I didn’t have the recipe, so there was a lot of experimentation involved. I spent months not being able to come up with any interesting ideas, and that was very scary.”
Have you picked up a copy of David Guetta’s Listen? Do you feel the urge to shed a tear while you’re working things out on the dance floor?
