‘SPECTRE’ Is New Bond Title, Cast Joining Daniel Craig Revealed
Director Sam Mendes revealed the much awaited title for his new James Bond film during a live stream event, during which he also announced the rest of the cast that joins Daniel Craig. The statement included the car that Daniel Craig will be driving this time around.
On Thursday morning, Mendes made the announcement from the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios, where the film will be shot. Other locations include Rome, Mexico City, Tangier, Erfoud (Morocco), and the Austrian Alps, Deadline reports.
Following in the footsteps of Skyfall, Bond 24 will also be known by one single word, SPECTRE.
SPECTRE cast members announced by Mendes are, of course, Daniel Craig as Bond, Christoph Waltz — who earned the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Django Unchained — Andrew Scott (Sherlock) will play the villain Denbigh, Dave Bautista (Guardian of the Galaxy) as Mr. Hinx, Ralph Fiennes is the new M, as well as Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded) as Lucia Sciarra, and Blue is the Warmest Color’s Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann.
Joining Mendes for SPECTRE will be Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema and editor Lee Smith.
But the new title for the Bond film was not the only news on Thursday morning. We also learned that Craig will be driving an Aston Martin DB10, which was designed exclusively for SPECTRE.
The plot for the new Bond movie goes as follows.
“A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”

If you are a fan of the novels, you may understand what SPECTRE stands for. It’s an acronym for “Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion.” The global crime organization has been led by the evil Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the classic Ian Fleming novels and has been part of the Bond films From Russia With Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, and For Your Eyes Only.
The talk was that Christoph Waltz would play Blofeld, however, his character’s name doesn’t indicate that, unless there is something hidden. Ernst’s father, Hannes Oberhauser — who was an Austrian climbing and skiing instructor in the novels — became very close friends with James when he gave him skiing lessons while he was on break from Fettes College, but mysteriously disappeared. The Daily Mail reports that Waltz will be introduced as Franz Oberhauser, Hannes’ son, but later be revealed as Blofeld and Sir Roger Moore’s tweet would indicate it to be true.
So Blofeld is back!
