Foo Fighter frontman Dave Grohl candidly revealed in a warts n’ all interview on the The Howard Stern Show that it was a nightmarish experience with ‘reality’ family the Kardashians which finally convinced him to give up drugs once and for all.
Grohl confesses to Stern that he stopped using weed around the age of 20, when things started to go pear-shaped and the drugs brought nothing but bad experiences and rampant paranoia his way.
The former Nirvana stickman reveals that 25 years later temptation came knocking upon his door once more and the devil asked Dave to dance.
Grohl explained to Stern that around about the time he was working on the Foo Fighters new album Sonic Highways , he kind of thought it would be a good idea to play hard and loose with a little joint, or maybe ten.
“I’m an insomniac – I don’t sleep a lot. We were recording in the desert for this record and there was a bonfire, a bottle of wine going round, and a ton of weed. I thought, ‘I might roll a little joint…’ and I slept for 8 hours. I thought, ‘This is the cure!’”
Bingo! Grohl had fallen off the wagon but he was still kind of enjoying the ride of being an easy-come, easy-go pot-head again, when disaster struck in the from of the Kardashian clan.
Grohl reveals that late one night he was sitting at home, smoking dope, and as millions of people whose senses have been befuddled and minds all but destroyed by illegal substances and the gnawing emptiness and terrible banality of the modern world tend to do, Dave was watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Hollow and hopeless in a a delirious drugged-up daze, Grohl stared blankly as the Kardashians went about their business and as Kim Kardashian and her extended family preened, pontificated, postured, strutted, and swanned around Dave’s enormous plasma screen, Grohl admits he saw the gaping, greedy, and unfathomable jaws of the abyss open up and it nearly consumed the poor drummer’s sanity.
“One night after everyone was asleep I smoked way too much, watched The Kardashians – and lost my mind.”
So harrowing was Grohl’s experience with illegal substances and the Kardashians, not only has the Foo Fighter vowed to give up drugs for good, he also believes Kim Kardashinan and the rest of her clan could be utilised positively as an effective means of getting addicts off the hard stuff.
“I’m never smoking pot again. They should do that in rehab centres: get you super-f**king-high and make you watch The Kardashians. You’ll never take drugs again!”
